Andrew Goldenberg, PhD, PEng, CEng, FASME, FIEEE, FEIC, FCAE, FAAAS, CEO & President

Andrew Goldenberg PhD is the founder (1982) of Engineering Services Inc (ESI). Under his leadership the company has achieved a significant growth and global leading role in the development of new robotics technology for a range of industrial sectors.

Dr. Goldenberg is also the founder of the field of Robotics at the University of Toronto where he has been since 1982 a Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, cross appointed in the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Goldenberg is also an Adjunct Professor at Ryerson University and Guest Professor at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, P. R. China. From 1975-1981 Dr. Goldenberg has been an employee of SPAR Aerospace Ltd., of Toronto, working on the development of the first Space Shuttle Remote Manipulator System (Canadarm).

Dr. Goldenberg is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), a Fellow of The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a recipient of the 2010 Ontario Professional Engineers Engineering Medal for Entrepreneurship, a recipient of the 2013 EIC Sir John Kennedy Medal for Outstanding Merit, a Member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEng), and a Designated Consulting Engineer in Ontario (CEng). He is a former editor of the archival international journal IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, and a member of the editorial boards of Robotica, Robotics in Japan, Journal of Robotics, and Robotics Journal.

Dr. Goldenberg graduated from the University of Toronto with a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (Control Systems) in 1976. His B.A.Sc. and M.A.Sc. degrees were obtained from the Technion, Israeli Institute of Technology, in 1969 and 1972, respectively. Dr. Goldenberg was born in Bucharest, Romania.

 

Matt Gryniewski, General Manager Engineering

Matt Gryniewski, Manager Mobile Robots and Robotics & Automation Divisions

Matt Gryniewski joined ESI in 1999, and has actively and significantly contributed in senior roles to the company's rapid and extensive growth, as the manager of the Mobile Robots and Robotics & Automation divisions of the company. These divisions include experts in various complementary fields: robotics, controls, vision, mechanical design, electronics, software development, and system engineering.

Matt Gryniewski has been a significant contributor to the design of a wide range of ESI products, from concepts to prototypes and production models. He has been leading and supervising multi-disciplinary teams in the development of numerous innovative robotic products and systems, including mobile robots for space and security applications, modular arms for space, and custom-robotic systems for nuclear, gas pipes, laboratory and other industrial sectors.

With Matt Gryniewski at the helm, the mandate of ESI has expanded from the development of technology to embodiment of the technology in quality products for a range of industrial applications. He is responsible for the development and execution of major projects, and delivery of related products.

Mr. Gryniewski studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Western Ontario.

 

Ziren Lu, PhD, PEng, Vice-President Technology Development

Dr. Ziren Lu joined ESI in 1993, and has actively and significantly contributed in senior roles to the company's rapid and extensive growth. He has been the manager of the Security and Defense division of ESI since 2009, until his most recent promotion.

Dr. Lu has been a significant contributor to the design of a wide range of ESI products, from concepts to prototypes and production models. He has been leading and supervising multi-disciplinary teams in the development of numerous innovative robotic products and systems, including ESI’s blast analysis software program, mobile robots for space, security, and medical applications, modular arms, and custom-robotic systems for nuclear, food and other industrial sectors.

With Ziren at the helm, the mandate of ESI has expanded from the development of technology to embodiment of the technology in quality products for a range of industrial applications. He is responsible for the development and execution of major projects, and delivery of related products in conjunction with major partners in Asia.

Dr. Lu graduated from the University of Toronto with a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1992. His B.A.Sc. (1982) and M.A.Sc. (1987) degrees were obtained from East China University of Technology, P.R. China and Shanghai JiaoTong University, P.R. China, respectively.

Dr. Lu has published archival papers in the robotics literature. Dr. Lu is a Member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEng).
